PictureDesktop nuclear reactor
One of my colleagues got a new job at Brunswick Nuclear Station.  As a going away present, I printed this cool nuclear reactor.  I downloaded the Toy Reactor design file from Thingiverse.com.  Printing time for all of these parts took about 20 hours.  I did some tricky, on the fly, filament change-outs to get the top of the railing and the deck to show up in different colors.  Then I had to drill out the holes for the railing, because the printed holes were a little smaller than the design file due to the way the plastic flows.  Finally I had to do some clean-up with an Exacto knife and a file to get the threaded control rods and the gears to fit smoothly enough to move.  The end result was this really neat desktop nuclear reactor that has moving parts, as you can see in the video below.  I don't know for sure, but I think Shannon is the only person at Brunswick Nuclear Station with a nuclear reactor on her desk.  #Abstract2Actual 8 days
